Nick Drake named his first album Five Leaves Left after the warning that appeared near the end of a pack of Rizla rolling papers: “ONLY 5 LEAVES LEFT.”
In 1969, musician Paul Wheeler remembered sitting with Nick while he rolled a joint with Rizla papers. When Wheeler asked what his newly released album was called, Nick told him Five Leaves Left.
Wheeler looked at the papers and laughed.
